Five big benefits of Lingual Braces

Lingual braces have been rapidly gaining in popularity over recent years. Many people are looking for effective orthodontic treatments that won’t compromise on aesthetics.

This is where lingual braces really shine. Not only are they a highly effective way of realigning your teeth, they’re also close to invisible.

If you’re thinking about choosing lingual braces, here are five big benefits to keep in mind.

1. They’re incredibly discreet

If you want to get a perfect smile without having to wear a traditional fixed brace, lingual braces could be just what you’re looking for. Though they work in a very similar way to a traditional brace, the brackets are attached to the back of your teeth instead of the front. This means they’re hardly visible at all.

2. You don’t have to remember to put them in

There are other options for invisible braces, but they consist of removable aligners. Though these work brilliantly for many people, some don’t like the idea of having to take an aligner in and out every time they want to eat or drink. Lingual braces offer the same level of discretion, but you don’t have to remember to put them in!

3. They’re effective and can be used for more complex malocclusions

The other major benefit lingual braces have over removable aligners is that they’re suitable for almost all types of malocclusion. Programmes such as Invisalign aren’t usually suitable for more complex or severe alignment issues, but lingual braces are.

4. All brackets are customised

As lingual braces are fixed to the back of the teeth instead of the front, it’s a little trickier to fit them. Because of this, each patient will receive brackets that are custom made for each of their teeth. This is different from traditional fixed braces, where standard brackets are used. Many patients find this makes their braces more comfortable to wear.

5. They won’t discolour the front of your teeth

Some patients are concerned that their teeth will become discoloured during orthodontic treatment. This is far less of a concern with lingual braces, as any discolouration will be on the back of the teeth rather than the front.
